It is a bit later this month I wanted to give the Fat Tim a bit longer on the front page, if you have not read it find it here https://joelhopkins.wordpress.com/fat-tim/ .
So last month it was TV Shows, the month before that it was my favorite Sci-Fi books and now it’s the turn of games. I have being playing games from a very young age, my sister had a PlayStation and I had N64, so I the best of both worlds when it came to gaming. As i grew older I moved on to PC gaming as well as my PlayStation, as I got older the PC went to the wayside and now I only play on my PS3.
A note some of these game are part of a franchise, but for the sake of fairness I am just going to include the best game out of the franchise, otherwise the list would only contain a couple of game franchises!.
This list was a lot harder than I thought it would be to make, I knew from the start what number 1 was going to be. However I have played so many games over the years that, I have an awful feeling I missed some amazing game that I have played in the way in the past.
But first off the games that did not make it on to my list.
- The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
- GTA: Vice City
- Banjo Kazooie
- Golden eye
- Mario 64
- Stargate Worlds (If it had come out)
- Rugby league 2
- Fallout 3
- Rugby goal kicking on my I-pod
There is loads more but my mind can’t think at the moment
So here is my top 5,
5) Call of duty 4 (Played on PS3)
I know it’s all like the super popular thing at the moment, but just on the amount of time I have spent playing it means it deserved a place in my top 5 (an accolade that any game is looking for). It’s a fun, it still looks great a few years later. The online multiplayer is addictive and the single player is very atmospheric. Simply a great game.
4) Half life 1 (Played on PC)
Half-life was game that took me by surprise I actual can’t remember why i got it, I just got one day. I always have fond memories of the start the game, it real made you feel like you was going in to a massively secure research base, moving through massive metal doors, going further and further down underground. The combat and story was top notch. What stood out about half life was that it was just all shooting; they were lots of puzzles some quite hard when first played it (I was young). Apart from the fact that there was lots of scientist in the game and yet only 3 faces for them (kind of confusing) it is an amazing game that I could still play today.
3) Devil May Cry 1 (Played on PS2)
During one School Holiday one day I became very ill and this game saved me, it was the perfect game to play in the midst of flu haze. Dante simply put is so damn cool. Anyone who has played the game will know the awesome pure fun of the game. For a hack and slash game it had a surprisingly good story. The mood is set by superb music and Gothic setting with a strangely large castle. The boss battle can only bested by the game in number 1 spot, but the unadulterated action and evil puppets mean it’s in my top 5 list.
2) Star Ocean – Till the end of time (Played on PS2)
Ahhh Star Ocean an RPG to kill all other RPG. A story of a boy who was on holiday, who through an attack on the resort, the boy ended up on a medieval like planet that is torn apart by war; pretty simple really!. Got to say the ending blew my mind a little! I have really lovely memories of playing this game, but can’t remember all that much about it. I would replay it but the disc no longer works.
And now for my number 1
1) Metal Gear Solid (Played on PS1)
When I started the list there was one thing that was fixed in place and that was my number 1 spot. Without doubt my favourite game of all time. I was 7 when i first played this game I know sure everything is better when you’re that age, still it was freaking awesome. Its chock full of classic moments such as psycho mantis (A guy in a gas mask clearly in to bondage) reading the memory card (the ultimate mindfuck), the battle with Metal gear Rex and ninja. The game has comedy – Otacon peeing himself. Action -Boss battles. Stealth – most of the game. The story is still one of best seen in a game. It’s also one of the few games where all of the sequels are as good as the first; my real top 5 would be made up of all metal gear solid games. I have played this game more times than I care to admit and it still plays well 12 years after its release date.
Well there it is my top 5.
Will Blog again soon probably a more personal one.
