Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween to all you ghost, goblins and ghouls. I don’t want any of you eating to much candy (yes I said that) on this spooky day. As for me my plan I am going to go see my friends band the “eyes of march” at the inns! Yes it’s fancy dress party and no I don’t have a costume. Maybe i will go as a nerd should be easy. I don’t know what will happen but I hope to have ghastly time! Oh dear me…..

Have a horrible Halloween

Another Top 5 list

It is a bit later this month I wanted to give the Fat Tim a bit longer on the front page, if you have not read it find it here https://joelhopkins.wordpress.com/fat-tim/ .

So last month it was TV Shows, the month before that it was my favorite Sci-Fi books and now it’s the turn of games. I have being playing games from a very young age, my sister had a PlayStation and I had N64, so I the best of both worlds when it came to gaming. As i grew older I moved on to PC gaming as well as my PlayStation, as I got older the PC went to the wayside and now I only play on my PS3.

A note some of these game are part of a franchise, but for the sake of fairness I am just going to include the best game out of the franchise, otherwise the list would only contain a couple of game franchises!.

This list was a lot harder than I thought it would be to make, I knew from the start what number 1 was going to be. However I have played so many games over the years that, I have an awful feeling I missed some amazing game that I have played in the way in the past.
But first off the games that did not make it on to my list.

  • The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
  • GTA: Vice City
  • Banjo Kazooie
  • Golden eye
  • Mario 64
  • Stargate Worlds (If it had come out)
  • Rugby league 2
  • Tetris
  • Fallout 3
  • Rugby goal kicking on my I-pod
  • Portal

There is loads more but my mind can’t think at the moment

So here is my top 5,

5) Call of duty 4 (Played on PS3)

Man i'm like all mainstream

I know it’s all like  the super popular thing at the moment, but just on the amount of time I have spent playing it means it deserved a place in my top 5 (an accolade that any game is looking for). It’s a fun, it still looks great a few years later. The online multiplayer is addictive and the single player is very atmospheric. Simply a great game.

4) Half life 1 (Played on PC)

"Just step in to this camber nothing bad will happen"

Half-life was game that took me by surprise I actual can’t remember why i got it, I just got one day. I always have fond memories of the start the game, it real made you feel like you was going in to a massively secure research base, moving through massive metal doors, going further and further down underground. The combat and story was top notch. What stood out about half life was that it was just all shooting; they were lots of puzzles some quite hard when first played it (I was young). Apart from the fact that there was lots of scientist in the game and yet only 3 faces for them (kind of confusing) it is an amazing game that I could still play today.

3) Devil May Cry 1 (Played on PS2)

You know he is going to beat the hell out that spider

During one School Holiday one day I became very ill and this game saved me, it was the perfect game to play in the midst of flu haze. Dante simply put is so damn cool. Anyone who has played the game will know the awesome pure fun of the game. For a hack and slash game it had a surprisingly good story. The mood is set by superb music and Gothic setting with a strangely large castle. The boss battle can only bested by the game in number 1 spot, but the unadulterated action and evil puppets mean it’s in my top 5 list.

2) Star Ocean – Till the end of time (Played on PS2)

I remember seeing this poster in a playstation magazine it made me want the game.

Ahhh Star Ocean an RPG to kill all other RPG.  A story of a boy who was on holiday, who through an attack on the resort, the boy ended up on a medieval like planet that is torn apart by war; pretty simple really!. Got to say the ending blew my mind a little! I have really lovely memories of playing this game, but can’t remember all that much about it. I would replay it but the disc no longer works.
And now for my number 1

1) Metal Gear Solid  (Played on PS1)

When I started the list there was one thing that was fixed in place and that was my number 1 spot. Without doubt my favourite game of all time. I was 7 when i first played this game I know sure everything is better when you’re that age, still it was freaking awesome. Its chock full of classic moments such as psycho mantis (A guy in a gas mask clearly in to bondage) reading the memory card (the ultimate mindfuck), the battle with Metal gear Rex and ninja. The game has comedy – Otacon peeing himself. Action -Boss battles. Stealth – most of the game. The story is still one of best seen in a game. It’s also one of the few games where all of the sequels are as good as the first; my real top 5 would be made up of all metal gear solid games. I have played this game more times than I care to admit and it still plays well 12 years after its release date.

Well there it is my top 5.

Will Blog again soon probably a more personal one.

Bye bye

Don’t worry I am not stopping this blog.

On Saturday we had a good bye meal for my sister who is off travelling on Thursday (leaving Wednesday to her travelling buddy house). We went to the Old Mill restaurant outside Huddersfield. It was a nice meal had some steak in terikia source for my main little chewy but nice. I will stop there on the food i don’t want it to turn it a food review blog, although i’m sure somewhere down the line it will end up being one, so don’t quote me on this.
So yeah my sister is going travelling. She is going for 3 months and seeing loads and loads of Asia she starts off in China. Her start of the trip is the very similer to my school trip to China that I did 2 1/2 years ago when i visited Beijing, Shanghi and Xi’an just in a different order.

China

Me, just in my casual clothes.

I hope she has a grand time in Asia, i’m sure she will and take away a lot of memories, I know I did from just 2 weeks.

Finally got somewhere on the job front, with a phone interview at william hill in leeds apparently I may get spat in the face hopefully something will come from it. Also had a driving lesson today that was my 6th lesson and i am doing alright at the moment can’t say i am loving at the moment probably still a bit  nervous.
Reading another Frank Herbert book at the moment ‘The White Plague’ just another book to put on the pile of apocalypse books which i seem to have read a lot of, what does that tell you about me.

Toodle pip
Joel

The forth kind!!!!

I remember watching the trailer for this movie and it looked really good, because it was a quite Friday night for me and it was on sky anytime I thought why not?
Well I wish someone had given me a the why not before I spent 1 and half hours watching it. Tell a lie i had to skip some of it was so god damn slow. Not since the sickathon film antichrist have I been this disappointed with a film. Really as a someone who would call them self a fnerd when it comes to nearly all things sci-fi, I can honestly say this worse thing ever!! Yes even worse than Plan 9 from Outer Space a film I am quite fond of because of it’s crapness. I mean seriously in the whole film, you don’t have one alien and its about alien abductions. Seems to me they couldn’t afford a design to come up with an alien design and then the CG artist to make it.

A big fat 1 out 5 from me.

This is also a tester blog as it’s my first blog posted on my I pod touch.

Stargate Universe – Intervention

Spolers!!

So the first episode of Stargate Universe Season 2 aired in the UK on Tuesday. As a big stargate fan I was shitting my self with excitement. With season 1 ending on a huge Cliff hanger, Chloe shot and not looking her best, Scott and Greer Stuck outside the ship with a deadly pulsar that will kill them if there still out there for much longer, Eli rushing to get to the air lock to get them back in. TJ has been shot which is even more worrying because she is pregnant. Telford has also been shot (lots of shot people). The destiny has been taken over by Lucian Alliance and to top it all off, the Alliance have round up all the military personal and it looks like they are going to execute them. I maybe would go so far as to say that perhaps there was to many question to be answered in this episode but they did manage to get them all answers so its all good. As this is going to be very biased review,  I would like to point out the negative of this episode, with all the main players in danger would it not have made sense to Kill one of them, its a catch 22, yes because I like all of them but it would add more danger to the show but maybe that will come later.

SGU

It was an action packed episode

Any way I don’t want to spoil the episode for anyone but everything was resolved quite nicely at the end of the episode. Lots of action, not much humor which is sadly come to expect for SGU and great drama and cool science. The real star of this episode was Alaina Huffman who plays T.J she did a great job in what was an emotional episode for her character, she really showed her acting chops in this one.

T.J and Space

A lovely shot and not just T.J ass.

One of the addition to SGU compared to the other Stargate’s is the addition of contemporary music which was only used in very few episode of Sg1 and Atlantis. And intervention had another great track in it – Mumford & Sons, After the Storm. It does seem to add a lot to the show, so I hope to see more of it.

The next episode of SGU is on at 9.00 PM Tuesday on Sky 1.
Watch because I don’t think the ratings are very good.

What do you think……

People say that I look like David Mitchell, so what do you think?

To be honest I can’t see the resemblance.

Tomorrow is a day I have been looking forward to for a long time, stargate universe season 2 starts in the UK at 9pm on Sky1, please, please watch it you won’t be disappoint. I will be watching it at my friends house as we are having a bit of SGU marathon beforehand, can’t wait.

New Blog for a new month

Well September is over and so is any sort of decent weather. No don’t worry I am not going to start bloging (Blogging?) about weather, that’s next month. Just wanted to say, I feel I have not been blogging (Bloging?) as much as I should be. I think when I started this Blog I set my standards to high. I think the reason for this was that at the time I only read the two blogs first Mr Joseph Mallozi (A stargate writer and producer) who can be found here http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/. Now Mallozzi has Bloged (Blogged?) every day for since November 24th  2006 now that my friend is dedication. The other Blog that I read regular is  http://whatever.scalzi.com/ This is John Scalzi, Blog an incredible talent writer and reading his blog is equally entertaining. He is another Blogger (a Bloggie?) that blog’s nearly. Those two people have interesting life’s, and are both professional writer.  Not saying I don’t have a interesting life (i have few interesting story’s)  just that I am not talented (Bothered?) enough to write one everyday. So don’t expect it you greedy bunch…. oh wait you weren’t, never mind then.

Today I had a trip in to my old school, Outwood Grange Academy. They now have a full proof security gate to keep the nasty people away. It is so secure that me a stranger, had to buzz the gate and say “can I come in please” hey-presto the gate opened. At the time I had no business clothes on (the clothes that sixth form students MUST ware) and had a hood over my head. I don’t see many flaws in their plan. Nice to see some friends again.
